In Search Of The New

A tragedy has happened in our hearts. God's creation has become commonplace. It's scandalous for us not to be perpetually in awe of the night sky or breathless from the rising of the sun. And yet, things become "seen," and our hearts become bored.

Our world is constantly searching for a new, fresh, hot thing. New. Not just new, but brand new. Better yet, new and improved! It's an insatiable desire that countless industries build upon—a never-ending treadmill for creating goods and content to satisfy our longings for the new.

We know that man's best attempts will never satisfy. As a society, we will run and run but never truly get any closer to our goal. The good news, though, is that God is making everything new. Near the end of the Bible in Revelation, John saw the future. Verse five of chapter 21 says, "And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also, he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

On that day, when God has completed his work, the treadmill will stop. We will stop chasing the new and receive it as a gift. The gift will be new hearts and eyes to experience a new creation. Eyes that will continually see the new and hearts that never lose the wonder.
